Background
From an early age, George Păunescu demonstrated a remarkable artistic talent, pursuing his passion for drawing and painting through formal studies at the Art High School in Craiova before continuing at the University of Art in Bucharest, where he specialized in mural art. His artistic development was further enriched through advanced specialization in ancient mural painting at the Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana in Rome, Italy, deepening his connection to sacred art, restoration, and classical artistic traditions.
Over the decades, this foundation evolved into a distinguished international career marked by exhibitions across Europe, membership in the UNESCO-affiliated International Association of Plastic Arts, and an extensive academic career dedicated to artistic education. He taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Timișoara within the conservation and restoration department before becoming Lecturer, and later Associate Professor, at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest, where he continues to mentor and shape new generations of artists.
